Roseberry Topping

Roseberry Topping is the most prominent hilltop in the area and I remember seeing it on the skyline as we drove up to view Old Bears Barn for the first time.  I've been wanting to climb it since we moved in but until today could persuade no-one to come up with me.

One of Ian's cousins and her family stayed with us this week and with two active boys Roseberry Topping seemed the perfect destination for a day out.  And so it proved to be!  It's managed by the National Trust and there are clearly defined paths, some more difficult than others, to the summit.  We took the moderate climb up, a wise choice as it turned out, and the more difficult, steep path down.  It was windy at the top, as you'd imagine, but the views were truly spectacular and well-worth the climb.

We rewarded ourselves with a late lunch in The Kings Head Inn at Newton-under-Roseberry.
