As I've mentioned before, we're expecting a steady stream of visitors over the festive period so are doing our best to do as much advance preparation as possible. Ian is taking responsibility for most of the cooking (I think it's his excuse to be in the kitchen away from my family - we do get very noisy and silly when we're all together!) and it's being planned like a military operation. I've already made the cranberry sauce and I always take charge of doing the red cabbage too, not least because it is my favourite Christmas veg dish. Two batches made this afternoon: the first with pear and cinnamon (for Christmas dinner), the second with orange and cloves (for Boxing Day with gammon). Yummy!!

Countdown to Christmas... red cabbage
