Out with the old, in with the new

Ian and I saw the New Year in quietly, just the two of us watching Jools Holland's Hootenanny and cracking open the champagne as the clock struck midnight.

The first day of 2019 dawned crisp and bright so after the excesses of the night before we decided to wrap up and venture out to blow the cobwebs away!

I last visited the Roman Road on Wheeldale Moor on a school trip (many many years ago) and having seen signposts locally wanted to revisit the place.

We weren't out for too long - the stretch of Road is short (apparently there is now some doubt as to whether it's origins lie in Roman times) and the clouds were amassing - but we felt refreshed by the exercise.  I was able to take a few photos, including some of the burning heather (for more info about this practice click here).
